Timber Solutions from the Heart of the South West Timber Hub

Located on Moore Road, Dardanup West, Wespine is about 15 km from the City of Bunbury in the southwest of WA. Greater Bunbury is a busy city of over 60,000 people offering an idyllic lifestyle including a wide range of recreational opportunities, great schools and a broad range of service and support industries underpinning a vibrant community. Bunbury is located on the coast, not far from the Margaret River wine and surfing region and enjoys a mild, Mediterranean climate supporting a great outdoor lifestyle.

Wespine employs approximately 240 people across the business, including the areas of operations, maintenance, planning, administration and sales. Wespine’s wholly owned trading company, Staxa, distributes and sells all Wespine products as well as importing wood to supplement supply to customers. Wespine/Staxa services markets in WA as well as South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, providing timber products for a variety of applications including housing, outdoor structures, renovations, garden and landscaping, and packaging.

Wespine draws its pine sawlogs from plantations spread from Mandurah and Boddington in the north to Albany in the south. The majority of its supply comes from within 150km of the sawmill. Wespine’s resource is diverse in character and includes final harvest and thinning logs. The WA Forest Products Commission supplies the majority of Wespine’s volume, but small quantities are also available from privately owned plantations spread around the local landscape.

Wespine has developed unique and sophisticated grading and quality control systems that enable it to extract the maximum value from the available resource by directing fibre with different character into appropriate markets. The company is a recognised leader in structural timber grading and quality control, operating a fully integrated system that enables grading to respond to variations in fibre quality in real time during operations. Wespine has a strong tradition of continuously improving its commitment to product quality, well supported by capable and diverse operational and technical teams.

The strong support of Wespine’s shareholders, Laminex and Wesfarmers, together with their guidance and direction has enabled the company to grow and prosper. Wespine and Staxa are well positioned for further growth in future and are continually investing in people and processes.
